The first time I had the Belgo, I was at the New Belgium Brewery, and outside of that I've never seen it sold retail anywhere near me. Then, walking through the aisles at CostCo with my wife and daughter, I saw it. Three beautiful bottles of Belgo in a fantastic Folly Pack lineup; including NBB's Hoptoberfest, Ranger IPA, and Fat Tire. So I did a little Irish jig in the aisle, "followed my folly", as the brewery suggests, and here I sit sipping one of the best beers to come out of Colorado.
Belgo, one of New Belgium's Lips of Faith series, pours a great golden color and has a finger of head that literally sticks around like whip cream. There's a great honey sweetness from the malt, but gives way to a great floral/clove hoppiness to finish. It's a beautifully balanced, bottle-aged beer that takes two of beer brewing's best traditions and melds them masterfully. At 7% ABV, the beer is on the strong side, but you wouldn't know it without looking at the very cool, disco-ball label.
Best Drunk: Out of a NBB glass, sitting in their "Liquid Center" and chatting with the other tourists (or about them) and letting the feel-good-ness of the experience ferment. One of the top 10 "best buzzes" for sure. Not bad out of a coffee mug in front of my laptop either...
