The video linked above is a collaboration between the producer, Greg Koch, the CEO of the Stone Brewing Company and Jared of Redtail Meadia, and 35 or so craft beer brewers from all over the United States. It was sown at the 2009 Craft Brewers' conference. There's a line in the video where one of the brewers observes that a hundred years ago there were more than 3,000 craft brewers in the U. S. According to the Brewer's Association, there were 65 Regional Craft Breweries in the U. S. in 2008, 446 Microbreweries, and 990 Brewpubs for a total of 1,501 Craft Breweries.
I'm glad microbrews/craft brews are making a comeback. I'm wildly enthusiastic about local brewpubs serving locally made craft brews. I love that within an hours' drive from where I live are a dozen or more brew pubs making craft beers, and two of them within walking distance. I love that I can go to the local grocery store or co-op and buy six packs and 22 ounce bottles of craft beer. I love that I have friends who make craft beer in their basements to give as Christmas gifts. I very much like that I can buy seasonal brews on tap, and even at the market. I love that older beer styles like Porter and Imperial Stout and Barley wine are coming back. I'm looking forward to American Craft Beer Week, May 11-17 this year. I'm thinking I might even buy a growler to go.
